Basic Outdoor Survival Skill-Shop

Scenario course

Do you know what to do if your out on a hunting trip and you break an ankle or your vehicle gets stuck or runs out of gas in the middle of the forest? How about if your work takes you into the deep bush or your just out on a nature hike and something goes wrong?  Do you know how to stay alive until you’re found?  Do you know how to stay alive until you can get out?

Borealis Bushcraft has teamed up with West Shield Outpost to teach basic knowledge such as how to properly prepare for an outting, and what to do if the worst should happen.  Things like primitive firecraft, navigation, building a shelter, finding water and making it clean, and finding food.

The class will be held on the grounds of Cooks Creek Community Club.  Here we have a creek and a small, but sizable treed area perfect for a day class.

Our outdoor survival day class will be held on November 8th 2014 at the Cooks Creek Community Club located at 30026 Zora rd 68N. at 9:00am.  Attendance is $70.00 (including GST), and is limited to 12 people. Come out and learn how to survive against the odds.

Intro to Bushcraft Multi-day Course

Three-day weekend course offered in Spring, Summer or Fall.

Topics of Instruction: Philosophy of Bushcraft and how it blends with Wilderness Survival. Fire Making and Maintaining it (both modern and primitive methods). Shelter building, Finding Water and making it pure. Basic direction finding, Safe and efficient tool use, and much much more. Instruction will be mostly hands on with some fire side lecture and lots of open forum discussion. Admittedly we have a non-linier teaching style. By the end of the weekend you will have navigated in the dark, built and slept in your own primitive shelter, started a fire by primitive means, cooked on said fire and found and purified water.

Maximum number of students is 6.

Cost for three days of great fun and learning…$250.00.

Course is offered when we have enough interested students. Once a date is set, a non-refundable deposit is required to secure your spot.

There is a mandatory equipment list for those attending.

Building your survival kit

Bushcraft Thriving Block: Building your wilderness thriving kit

Lecture and discussion about the concepts of building a wilderness thriving kit for your wilderness adventures.

Through a number of crafting projects we will provide hands-on training with bushcraft tools, including the knife, saw and axe. We will cover safe and proper use, as well as care and maintenance of your tools.

Feel free to bring your own axe/knife/saw.

All About Fire 

Bushcraft Thriving Block: “All About Fire”
A 6 hour day of hands-on learning about starting and maintaining fire. From gathering natural tinder through to keeping a fire going even in steady rain. This course is tailored for both novices and people with some bush life experience.

  • The cost of this 1 day course is $60.00.
  • The date will be set based on the schedules of participants and instructors.
  • Location will be within Winnipeg city limits.
  • There will be two instructors on site (Jon and Roland).
